I thought we could start a collection of articles on mask safety issues for talking points Identification Issues LINK: Mum's terrifying warning after stranger in Covid mask picked up her daughter, 3 - Mirror Online Talking Points: young children and children with special needs might not be able to identify the wrong person if their face is covered and vice versa. This violates areas of trust and consent and leaves kids at risk of going home with complete strangers. Hard of Hearing Student Impact LINK: National Association of the Deaf - NAD Talking Points: accommodations must be made for students who are hard of hearing or deaf. Deaf and hard of hearing people have rights, clear masks or clear face shields need to be used when communicating with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students LINK: Masks, Covid, and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students – Raising a Deaf or Hard of Hearing Child (handsandvoices.org) Talking Points: Direct quote: "There are two truths; one, there is no right answer, and two, parents and deaf students should be involved in the selection of facial coverings based on IDEA and ADA Title II statutes." Direct Quote:"ADA Title II states that deaf students are entitled to “effective communication.” This means that deaf students in the classroom have language and communication access that allows them the same learning opportunities and benefits as their peers. Only the student can tell us what is effective and not effective." LINK: Masks a cause of concern for parents of deaf and hard-of-hearing students | CBC News Talking Points: "Because one mask that works really well for a student who maybe has really severe hearing loss might not be the best one that works for someone with mild hearing loss. So it's going to be very individual depending on the student and the teacher." Masks are unhealthy Link: Dangerous pathogens found on children’s face masks – Freedom Of Speech (fos-sa.org) Talking Points Dangerous pathogens that are resistant to antibiotics and deadly, were found on childrens masks that were worn for 5 hours during the school day. Will the school enable that every child in school has enough masks to change them after every time they visit a restroom, every time they touch there face, every time they sneeze or cough. Will children whos parents cant afford disposable masks be provided them for free, will there be a budget created for this for all schools since they are being mandated and its not a parents choice?
